Hypertension remains a major problem in the health sector. Hypertension is one of the
problems often experienced by the elderly. Hypertension is a disease that can cause anxiety. This
is non experiment research with descriptions correlation method. Total sampling technique used
with 30 respondents who participated for this research. The respondents were elderly of Santa
Angela on April 2016. The instrument used was a mercury sphygmomanometer Riester and
questionnaires of the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (Hars). univariate and bivariate data analysis
was used Spearman Rank correlation. Results of the study were the majority of elderly people in
the age range 60-74 years (elderly), the status of married (63.3%), female (63.3%), with the basic
education level (56.7%), place of residence as a couple (60%),not smoking (80%), and low
socioeconomic level (80%). Elderly Santa Angela most experienced mild anxiety level that is
63.3%; systolic blood pressure of the majority are in the pre-hypertension category, while the
diastolic blood pressure of the majority is in the category of hypertension stage 1. The results of
Spearman Rank showed there is no significant relationship between the variables of systolic blood
pressure and diastolic blood pressure at the level of anxiety in the elderly Santa Angela (p> 0.05,
Correlation coefficient = 0.1).
