Bawang dayak (Eleutherine bulbosa) has antibacterial activity toward some microorganisms
e.g.Propionibacterium acne, Streptococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus aureus, three acne
related bacteria. This study was aimed to formulate bawang dayak ethanol extract into a mask gel
peel-off with polyvinil alcohol (PVA) and carboxymethylcellulose as gelling agent. Bawang dayak
ethanol extract of 2% were formulated into a gel peel-off mask with varying ratio of PVA and
CMC. Percentage of PVA: CMC in formula A is 12.5%: 0.5%, in formula B 10%: 1%, in formula
C 7.5%: 2%, and in formula D 5%: 4%. Physical stability testing performed at each formula
includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dry time, viscosity, spreading test, and freeze-thaw
cycling test. The result showed that formula B (CMC 1%:PVA 10%) meets all the requirements
of physical stability testing i.e. pH value of 5.62, spreading diameter of 6.14 cm, viscosity value
of 15 940 cP, dry time of 17 minutes 38 seconds and no appearance on freeze-thaw cycling test.
